Comparative Investigation on Hydrodynamic Performance of Pump-Jet Propulsion Designed by Direct and Inverse Design Methods

Pump-jet propulsion, a new propulsion technology, is primarily designed for underwater vehicles. Because of its concealment and excellent performance, it has been widely used, but due to confidentiality complexity, few studies have published. To explore the relevant design theory pump-jet with aim increasing in this study, we applied direct inverse methods construct three-dimensional model. The method was carried out by comparing lifting lifting-line methods, followed further geometric optimization better In numerical study using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations, Reynolds Averaged Naviere-Stokes (RANS) equations SST k-ω turbulence model were solved cylindrical domain around device. Therefore, small- medium-sized vehicles, if priorities are high efficiency, best option, whereas stability lower loss preferred, should be adopted.
